Hawkers throng MMC
HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, MAY 27
Anxious hawkers once again swarmed in the corridors of the Margao Municipal
Council on Wednesday morning hoping to get permission from the Civic body to
erect stalls for the three-day Holy Spirit feast fair on May 31.
While one group of hawkers was led by Tara Kerkar, which has an All Goa
membership of 230 hawkers, the Goan traditional hawkers also called on the
Municipal Chairperson Savio Coutinho and submitted a list of hawkers for stalls
in the Old Market area.
President of Goan Traditional hawkers Association, Rohidas Sawant informed
that they have asked the Civic Chairperson to grant permission to its members to
sell the traditional fair items.
Kerkar told the Chairperson to give permission for hawkers who have been
erecting stalls at the Holy Spirit Feast fair.
The hawkers also requested the Chairperson to extend the feast fair from three
days to seven days as per the tradition and to facilitate the people to make
provision for the monsoons.
