PANJIM: The two writ petitions filed by members of Fr Bismarque Dias’ family and social activists in the priest’s mysterious death came up for hearing on Wednesday before the High Court of Bombay at Goa. However, the prosecution sought time to reply and the next hearing has been scheduled two weeks from now.
The writ petitions allege that there are serious lapses in the investigation carried out by the Crime Branch (CB) and appealed that the case be handed over to a central agency like CBI. There are also allegations that CB has not followed proper mandat.
e and it was brought to the Court’s notice that no FIR has been registered despite a complaint by the family alleging that the death was due to murder.
Social activists, including Kennedy Afonso, Sudip Dalvi and Samir Kelekar, said they will take the case to a logical conclusion as they have faith in the judiciary.
Dias went missing on November 5 last year and his body was found on November 7 at St Estevam in River Mandovi.
His body has been preserved in the morgue for eight months as the family has not claimed it and is demanding a thorough investigation in the death.
