PANJIM: With the Met Department issuing a warning of rough weather, life guard agency Drishti Marine has issued an advisory instructing visitors not to venture into the sea during the next 48 hours.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall for the next 48 hours and has warned fishermen from venturing into sea due to rough weather conditions. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Service (INCOIS) has also warned of high waves along the coast of Goa from Vengurla to Vasco.
IMD said that the south-west monsoon currents are currently weak over the Goa coast. The total seasonal rainfall is around 71 inches, with average deficit of 15 inches as on date.
IMD said that the winds will be westerly with speeds of 45 to 55 kmph temporarily reaching 60 kmph in gust/squall. Sea will be rough to very rough with westerly waves.
According to the Met Department, heavy rainfall is expected to lash the State in the next 48 hours. The coastal belt will also witness fast currents and high waves.
“Citizens and tourists are advised to be cautious as rough weather and sea conditions will prevail during these days. IMD has also cautioned fishermen not to venture into the sea off Goa-Maharashtra coast and open sea in the next two days,” the spokesman of Drishti Marines said.
Owing to the monsoon and the present weather conditions, red flags have been posted across all beaches under Drishti’s surveillance indicating that these are strictly non-swim zones.
“Drishti cautioned adults to keep a close eye on children while on the beach and to not allow them to venture into the waters unattended, no matter how shallow it may be,” he said.
