Local marigold flower vendors are reeling under heavy financial losses this year after incessant rainfall damaged crops, leading to poor flower growth. Vendors who had purchased marigold saplings from the Agriculture Department at Rs 4.50 each said the yield has fallen far short of expectations, leaving many unable to recover their investment.
Their troubles have been compounded by the influx of outside flower sellers in local markets, which has further cut into their sales. Traditional vendors, who depend heavily on the festive season for income, say they are now struggling to sustain themselves.
