PANJIM: The High Court has dismissed the plea by Goa Cable TV Networking & Service Providers Association, seeking to prevent the Electricity Department from cutting cables until the final petition disposal. The Electricity Department is now free to cut unauthorized Internet & TV cables.
Executive Engineer Kashinath Shetye told media “Till now we haven’t received any fresh applications of cable operators as they don’t have GIS mapping and other permissions. We started our process to remove cables to earn revenue. From 2020 we are facing loses and can’t bear it. Further action we will take as per government’s instructions”.

The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Wednesday rejected the writ petition filed by the Goa Cable TV Networking and Service Providers Association. The court said rules can’t be stayed and court can’t be a part of illegality. Court instructed cable operators to take necessary permission from the department. Giving the verdict on Department’s favour the court Instructed Electricity department to remove all the cables hanging on Electrical poles.
In the writ petition filed by the Association and businessman Anand Talwalkar, they had urged the court to issue an interim injunction restraining the Electricity Department and its Executive Engineer from cutting, snapping or disconnecting cables that provide connectivity to their subscribers until the final disposal of the case.
The matter came for hearing on Wednesday, where the court refused to stay the removal of cables from Electricity poles.
