MARGAO: Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardessai reassured the people of Chandor that the state Highway 8 passing through the village has been denotified for all practical purposes and said the notification will be issued shortly.
Speaking as chief guest at the finals of the Seamen Tournament, he said the TCP board at its meeting had decided to denotify the highway passing through Chandor but the minutes could not be confirmed as the meeting was adjourned.
“The adjourned meeting shall be held shorty following which the minutes will be confirmed and the notification published,” he said pointing out that he had fulfilled the promise made last year at the same finals that he would preserve the heritage of Chanor village.
Yuri Alemao speaking on the occasion said one of the reason he joined the Goa Forward Party was because Vijai fulfils every promise he made.
Meanwhile, the San Jose villagers at the gram sabha on Sunday directed the panchayat to find the exact route of the proposed state Highway 8 diversion. “As long as it is going through the notified route, we have no problems, but we need to know the details,” said Freddy Travasso, one of the villagers.
