Faced with increasing burglaries and desecration of Temples in the state, the Hindu Janjagruti Mandir Samiti (HJS) has formed a Federation of Temples to safeguard and protect the interests of the religious bodies.
Spokesman of the Samiti, Ramesh Shinde on Sunday had meetings with representatives of temples from across the state in North and South Goa.
Later briefing newsmen here this evening, Shinde said that Mandir Mahasang has been formed in the state to protect the religious bodies from the spate of burglaries and desecrations.
He said the coming together of the Temples Committees under one banner will help the individual Trusts from warding off any encroachments into the management by the government.
Shinde said that the government had taken over the management of many Temples in Maharashtra, which has given rise to corrupt practices. “This has forced the Samiti to organize the Temple Trusts under one banner. In Maharashtra, there already exists a Mandir Mahasang and now we have formed a similar Mahasang in Goa”, he added.
Replying to a question, Shinde said the Samiti will try to bring as many Temple committees within the Federation to ensure they are protected from all quarters.
