VALPOI: The flood-affected people of Kankire village are still banking on the promise made by Valpoi MLA Vishwajit Rane that he will rebuild the three collapsed houses during the recent floods.
These homeless people from the village celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi in an open corridor, near their collapsed houses.
These families received Rs 1 lakh compensation each from the State government.
“In Rs 1 lakh we cannot rebuild our houses. So we demand more financial help from the government. Our Valpoi MLA has not helped us during our bad times, despite promising that we will help us in front of the whole media,” the affected family members claimed.
“In our Kankire village, total three houses were collapsed in recent floods. Our local MLA had visited our village and had taken stock of the situation. He told us not to take any help or support of the social groups or social workers and that he will rebuild all the three collapsed houses. Now, almost two months have been completed but till date our MLA has not rebuild the three houses,” the villagers mentioned.
“My house had totally collapsed in the recent floods and our MLA has promised me that he will rebuild my house with his own money and not to take any support of the social groups. Now, it’s almost two months past, our MLA is not rebuilding my house. I requested him many times but he didn’t reply to me,” Tolyo Gawde said.
