According to vendor Nalli Gaude, she earlier sold coconuts ranging from Rs 20 to 30 depending on the size. Now it costs between Rs 30 to 40.
The small sized coconuts which were earlier sold at Rs 10 now fetch a price of Rs 20 per nut.
Vendors said they don’t know the exact cause for short supply of coconut and its rising prices but Kisan Naik, another vendor said the government should find out cause of rising prices of coconut.
Attacks by pests and farmer’s disinclination to plant more trees have caused coconut prices to surge in Goa, putting the nut beyond the reach of the common man.
