PANJIM: Amid a surge in frequent power failures across the State leading to frustration among consumers, an officer, attached to Electricity Department, in a ‘honest’ reply on a Twitter lamented that he too was suffering from power cuts.
In the tweets, which stood deleted now, the department has also confirmed that the account has not been hacked.
Twitter users were keen to have such honest person as the Power Minister of the State being ‘real’ in his replies on behalf of the department.
“I also have no lights and would be anytime fading away from you all until supply restored and mobile and laptop charged,” the department handle tweeted past midnight Monday.
The tweet came at a time when the department account was flooded with complaints of power cuts following thunderstorms and fierce winds that had snapped power lines and caused disruptions.
The initial tweet attracted a surprise from one of the user-cum-follower who questioned “what?” and at the candid admission and the person behind the account pointed out that he too was a consumer, just like everyone else.
“Why What??? Or why surprise??? I am also a consumer like you, now out of office but only a department person on twitter. No special service to me I go through the same route as you all to find better solutions and to pass it on if any,” he replied.
To this, another user asked the person behind post not to be upset…All good.
Here too, the reply was quick “not upset but you must know that I am with you all”.
When users suggested that the unusual nature of the account’s Twitter feed indicates the account has been hacked, the handle said: “I do not think a hacker would work so late to lose his sleep and interact with you all in a pleasing way and providing correct info. They hack to cause destruction of some kind. No hack here, please note.”
The tweet exchange quickly went viral and received hundreds of likes and comments before it was deleted on Tuesday early morning.
