Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Singh explained that the significant feature of the new system is that a call taker would instantly see the details of the caller on his screen as soon as a call is received. The in-built software enables the call taker to find the exact location of the caller on the Geographical Information System (GIS) map. Thereafter, the call will get connected immediately to the nearest emergency vehicle on its Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) without delay. Initially 20 Police Control Room (PCR) vehicles have been fitted with MDTs for immediate dispatch. MDTs will be fitted in all PCR vehicles in due course.
The Goa Police is also expected to add more vehicles to its fleet with proposal for nearly 100 vehicles submitted to the government. CM Sawant added that they will upgrade the infrastructure and add vehicles under funds provided by the Centre.
