PANJIM: The State government has appointed the Indian Council for Agriculture Research (ICAR) and the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) to jointly work on Action Plan on agriculture for Goa for next five years.
The directions were issued by the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant during a meeting with ICAR officials on Wednesday.

As per the statement issued by the government, the Chief Minister stressed on the need for working out proper five-year action plan for agriculture in Goa.
He said that ICAR and KVK to jointly work out the plan.
During the meeting, Sawant also called for efforts for developing krishi culture by undertaking integrated farming of agriculture and horticulture, agriculture and dairy farming, etc.
The Chief Minister sought cooperation of ICAR and other experts for enhancing the agricultural productivity in the State.
He said there is a scope for processing of rice and different kinds of fruits which need the required attention
Director ICAR Goa, Dr E V Chakurkar informed about the objective of the meeting was to sensitise all concerned about how to enhance agriculture production, its processing, branding and marketing and value addition to enhance the income of farmer, making the farmer self-reliant and achieve the goal of Swayampoorna Goa at large.
The ICAR also invited experts from various disciplines like horticulture and agriculture seek their expertise and guidance towards enhancing agriculture in the State.
