PANJIM: The Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration has informed the general public and chemist and druggists in particular, that the rapid diagnostic kits which are approved by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) only are to be used by the laboratories recognised by ICMR.

Further, they have informed that these kits cannot be sold to individuals for home testing. Many such kits are advertised online for sale, FDA has pointed.
The FDA has issued the clarification as it has come to its notice that some videos and messages on “Abehek Rapid Diagnostic Kit” are being circulated on social media, wherein coronavirus rapid home test kits are said to be available in all medical shops.
The chemist and druggists are directed to take a note of the same and any violation will attract strict action as per the provisions of the law.
The public is advised not to fall prey to such advertisement and note that the coronavirus testing is necessarily to be carried out only the at ICMR approved government or private testing labs, which are required to enter the result of the tests on the ICMR portal.
