If scrutiny goes well, nine panchas from Salcete to be elected unopposed

The concerned Returning Officers (RO) have received single nominations in their respective wards.

MARGAO: As the last day of filing the nomination papers for panchayat elections ended on Monday, a total of nine candidates from the Salcete Taluka are set to be elected unopposed from their respective wards. The concerned Returning Officers (RO) have received single nominations in their respective wards. 

ROs Lakshmikant Desai and Pravind Gawas told Herald that the scrutiny will be done on Tuesday, July 27.

In Village Panchayat of Seraulim for Ward No 5, the RO has received the only nomination from Angela Dourado, while in Ward No 8 of Cana-Benaulim Panchayat Xavier Wencey Pereira and Ward No 2 in Village Panchayat of Nagao, concerned RO has received the only nomination from Dileshwar Naik. 

As informed by RO Pravind Gawas, Josephin Rock Fernandes is the only candidate who has filed her nomination in Ward No 7 of Ambelim Village Panchayat. Whereas, a single nomination has been received for Ward No 6 in Macasana from Michel D’Souza and in Ward No 4 of Velim Village Panchayat Simon Fernandes is the only candidate, who has filed the nomination papers.

Three candidates are all set to be elected unopposed in Chandor-Cavorim Village Panchayat, including Esterphino Dias in Ward No 4, Maria Sequeira in Ward No 5 and Hipolito Dias in Ward No 6. 

These nine candidates will be declared elected unopposed if everything goes well with the papers they submitted at the time of scrutiny.
