PANJIM: The co-founder of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Prashant Bhushan on Sunday categorically stated that India might face the same fate as that of Pakistan, inviting civil wars in next five to seven years, if the current kind of governance continues without electoral reforms.
Bhushan, while addressing an interactive session in Panjim on Sunday said ‘this is our last opportunity to bring in electoral reforms. If we miss this boat, we might not get another’.
Speaking about AAP, the senior party leader said that the party is formed with a mission to change the political system of the country.
“We are not a political party, who just want to contest election and win it. But we are into political revolution. We will be working on a model through which power will be wrested in the hands of the people,” he said.
Bhushan claimed that India is a country, where government does not fall to public pressure and the democratic right of every citizen is restricted.
He said that public has no right to decide on crucial issues like allowing mining, coal gate or other developmental works in their areas or backyards, which are directly or indirectly likely to affect their livelihood. “These decisions are taken by Union or State government,” he stated.
“There is no democracy in the country, our party wants that the people should rule directly ~ an election every five years is not democracy ~ as per us, seeking public’s opinions before taking decisions is what democracy is,” he added.
He alleged that government and its machineries are not accountable to public but to each other.
“If the same governance and the level of corruption continued for next 5-7years, we might see India where Pakistan is today.”
India too, will have hierarchal structure and will be on verge of civil wars,” he added.
Bhushan announced that the party is set to contest the forthcoming Delhi elections, scheduled in December 2013. He said that party is confident of doing its best at the polls that will energise things in the rest of the country.
