Indian high commissioner Pranay Verma meets BNP chairman Tarique Rahman in Dhaka

Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma met Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday, marking a significant diplomatic engagement between India and Bangladesh. The courtesy call was held at Rahman’s Gulshan office and lasted close to an hour, according to BNP media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan.

The meeting followed recent high-level engagements, including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s visit to Dhaka and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s condolence letter to Rahman after the passing of his mother, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

Speaking earlier at an interaction with editors and senior journalists, Rahman said Bangladesh must move away from violence and politics of revenge. He emphasised that political differences should not lead to division, warning that such tendencies only result in frustration and suffering for the people.
