PANJIM: An inquiry against 26 Assistant Motor Vehicles Inspectors (AMVIs) of Transport Department is on to ascertain the charge of misrepresentation of facts by producing forged documents and securing employment, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho informed Ponda MLA Ravi Naik.
However, the services of two AMVIs, who had produced forged documents for securing employment as Assistant Motor Vehicles Inspectors were terminated in April 2012 and April 2013 respectively, Godinho said in a written reply to Naik.

The government appointed 47 AMVIs in the Transport Department, out of which 38 were appointed between 2007 and 2012 and nine were appointed between 2012and 2017. No AMVIs have been appointed since 2017 till date, he said.
The Minister has further informed Naik that the department had not selected/ appointed Assistant Motor Vehicles Inspectors more than the strength and that the recruitment was carried out as per the eligibility criteria specified in the Recruitment Rules.
In November 2012, the All Goa Private Bus Owners Association General Secretary Sudip Tamhankar had filed a complaint to the Chief Secretary demanding inquiry into the appointment of AMVIs more than the sanctioned strength.
He had also complained that most of these AMVIs had furnished experience certificates from the same garage from Usgao while, few others had produce certificates from garage where only light motor vehicles were being repaired/serviced.
Tamhankar had also filed a separate complaint to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) demanding filing of FIR into the alleged illegal appointment of AMVIs in the Transport Department.
