The Department of Electricity has cancelled a major planned shutdown across South Goa, sparing residents from an eight-hour power cut this Sunday. Originally scheduled for January 18, 2026, from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, the outage would have affected entire talukas of Salcete, Canacona, Sanguem, and Quepem.
Parts of Dharbandora: including V.P. Kirlapal-Dabal, Shigao-Collem, and Mollem, along with Ponda’s Panchawadi and Salaulim water works at Xelpem were also listed. The cancellation comes due to unavoidable circumstances, providing last-minute relief to households, businesses, and essential services.
This shutdown was likely planned for maintenance or infrastructure upgrades, common during non-peak hours.
