JMFC Pernem Summons 54, Including Vijai Sardesai, in Mopa Taxi Agitation Case

The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Pernem has issued summons to 54 individuals, including Goa Forward Party president Vijai Sardesai, in connection with the Mopa agitation case, directing them to appear before the court on June 15.

Taxi drivers and the other accused complied with the court’s directive and appeared before the JMFC during the hearing. Following the proceedings, several taxi operators contended that the legal provisions invoked against them were unwarranted, asserting that their protest was aimed solely at protecting their livelihoods.

The case arises from the agitation staged on September 29 and 30, 2025, by taxi operators serving Manohar International Airport at Mopa. The protesters had opposed the increase in parking fees imposed by GMR and raised objections to various operational restrictions affecting their business.

The demonstration underscored the continuing friction between local taxi operators, airport management, and authorities over transport policies, parking regulations, and competition at the airport. The matter is expected to proceed further following the court hearing.
