VASCO, SEPT 8
Revenue Minister Jose Philip D’Souza said the port town of Vasco city is all set to get a state-of-the-art bus stand on par with award winning bus stops of Cuncolim, Canacona and Honda.
D’Souza along with Transport Director Arun Desai, Architecture Rahul Despande of Rahul Despande and Association, Kadamba Transport Corporation Executive Engineer Gurudas Naik and Councillor Kritesh Gaonkar inspected the dilapidated Kadamba bus stand at Mundvel on the outskirts of Vasco on Tuesday afternoon.
D’Souza said since he had made an effort long ago to develop Vasco bus stand into a state-of-the-art bus stand in par with other well-designed bus stands in the State, Tuesday’s inspection was carried out in that respect.
“The transport minister has assured that bus stand in Vasco is the need of hour and once all approvals are obtained, it would be completed in the next one or one-and-half years,” informed D’Souza.
“The work will be carried in a phased manner, as construction and routine bus stand operations should go hand-in-hand,” added D’Souza.
Speaking to media, Transport Director Arun Desai said as some  land has been acquired by Goa Shipyard, Vasco Fire Brigade, State Administrative building, Tuesday’s inspection was carried out to ascertain how much land was in possession of the KTC.
“About 30,000 sq mtrs of land is available with KTC, while 35-40,000 sq mtrs is the minimum requirement for an ideal bus stand. But 30,000 sq mtrs is also adjustable,” said Desai.
When asked whether he would assure that once state-of-the-art bus stand is constructed, it should not be white elephant like Cuncolim and Honda bus stands, he said considering the arrival and departure ratio of Vasco bus stand, such a problem would not arise and once administrative building take shapes, commuters load would increase.
Architecture Rahul Despande of Rahul Despande and Association assured that even with 30,000 sq mtrs of land, they would design state-of-the-art bus stand with all modern amenities.
Rahul Despande and Association is acclaimed at the national level for designing state-of-the-art bus stands at Cuncolim, Canacona and Honda and has been awarded as best architect for designing the Cuncolim bus stand.
