PANJIM: A TV journalist, who has been consistently reporting about late night loud music parties along the beach belt, has accused a person of threatening him if the reports are not stopped.
In his complaint to Pernem police station, Vilas Arolkar accused a local person of abusing him in filthy language and threatening him with dire consequence in the beach shack the former owns.
He said that on March 23 at 5.50pm, this person who was already in the shack, “shouted abusive language at me and warned me not to enter Morjim village otherwise he would kill me.”
The complainant said the threat is a result of his sustained campaign through the media against loud music in the belt. Arolkar alleged that the man is politically influential and has contacts with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Residents of Gawdewada-Morjim have come out in support of the journalist alleging noise pollution despite police complaints.
“We are very simple people. So far we have approached many authorities with our problems due to late night loud music, however, it has fallen on deaf ears. The only support we received is from Arolkar, who is now being threatened by this man,” a complaint to Pernem police states.
Earlier this month Herald had reported that hundreds of students from Anjuna, Caisua and Siolim were severely affected as a result of the noise pollution in the surrounding areas of Morjim and Ashwem. A number of complaints have not yielded positive results. Pernem police were not available for comments till late evening.
