PANJIM: After receiving massive support for the people’s movement titled ‘Enough is Enough’ in Panjim, former Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, Ferdino Rebello, will now address a second meeting at the Margao Cricket Club hall at 4 pm on Thursday, January 15, on the eve of Opinion Poll Day.
The people’s movement is demanding the immediate repeal of Sections 17(2) and 39A of the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Act, along with other related legislations that permit change of zoning, change of land use and an increase in Floor Area Ratio (FAR), particularly in cases where road widths do not meet statutory requirements.

In its 10-point charter, which has been submitted to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the people’s movement has also demanded the relocation of casino vessels from the River Mandovi and the withdrawal of a circular issued by the TCP Department in 2023 allowing hill-cutting activities across the State. It has further sought a freeze on all construction permissions granted by town planners for contour changes, stating that they are not authorised to do so. Opposing the construction of mega projects and bungalows, Justice Rebello has demanded that the State be preserved for future generations who will require land.
