SANGUEM: The villagers of Kalay Sanguem have demanded for immediate construction of railway over bridge in the village as the villagers are made to face extreme hardship and also made to risk their lives while crossing the existing under bridge when it rains.
Sarpanch of Kalay Village Panchayat Kishore Gauns Desai informed that in the absence of railway over bridge, the villagers are compelled to travel additional distance of over 12 kilometres to Curchorem. While those residing across the bridge are the worst hit as the only option left for them to travel the nearest Sanguem stands increased by an additional over 15 kilometres.
Desai informed that for past several decades they have been demanding the railway over bridge in the village but the authorities are taking their own sweet time in completing the process for the construction of the railway over bridge.
Incidentally, some months back the railway authorities along with the Sanvordem MLA and PWD Minister Deepak Pauskwar had conducted the site inspection for the construction of the over bridge in the village.
However, the process for the construction of the bridge is yet to set in motion, informed Desai.
Highlighting the problems faced by the villagers, Desai mentioned that a week ago, a car driven by a local suddenly got washed away in the water flowing the under bridge as the water suddenly swelled and the car driver lost control of the vehicle.
Incidentally, no damage was caused to the person driving the vehicle, informed Desai.  The vehicle was later retrieved with the help of fellow villagers.
During monsoon, the villagers working at Sanvordem, Curchorem and other places have to first travel to Sanguem an additional distance of 12 kilometres before they head to their destinations.
Similarly is the case of villagers residing across the bridge, in the event of this, villagers wanting to go to Sanguem have to travel the extended route via Sanvordem.
The village panchayat has taken several resolutions for the urgent need for the construction of railway over bridge in the village but the same have failed to be considered as of date by the railway authorities.
Incidentally, it is not only the villagers from Kalay who are affected due to the delay caused in the construction of the railway over bridge but the villagers from neighbouring villages who intends to travel to Collem, Molem and other places are also facing hardship during the monsoon season when the railway under bridge remains under water.
