PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa granted conditional bail to Rajesh Kerkar, who arrested for allegedly assaulting Ravi Shirodkar of Calangute and was presently lodged in the Central Jail, Colvale.
The Court said that Kerkar should be released on bail upon furnishing a personal bond of Rs 25,000 with one or more surety/sureties of the like amount. He has been told not to enter the North Goa District during the pendency of the trial except for attending the trial and before the investigating officer. He has also been asked to give residential address where he will presently stay and all contact details along with his mobile number to the Trial Court as well as the investigating officer and to inform them about any change in residential address or contact details.

The Court has further asked Kerkar not to leave the State without prior permission of the Trial Court and to report to the Anjuna police station once in 15 days on alternate Thursday of the month commencing from the first Thursday of August between 11am and noon till the trial is concluded.
The applicant has been asked not to tamper with evidence and influence witnesses and to attend the hearing regularly on the dates fixed by the trial Court.
Kerkar along with 15 other accused were arrested by the Anjuna police in October last year for allegedly stabbing Ravi Shirodkar.
During the hearing, Additional Public Prosecutor Nikhil Vaze vehemently opposed the bail application mainly on the ground that the applicant was present when the assault took place. He told the Court that Kerkar was actively involved along with the main assailant. Kerkar is a history sheeter and as many as 12 cases are registered against him including the present one.
