PANJIM: After a gap of nearly two years, the kidney transplant procedure has resumed at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), which will soon be also launching cadaver and liver transplant.
On Saturday, team of neurologist and transplant surgeons from Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences, Mumbai along with department of neurology and nephrology at GMC held a successful live kidney donor transplant, while the next is scheduled on Sunday.
The Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Science have been associated with kidney transplant process for more than 30 years.
One of the doctor associated with the programme said that it was on October 15, 2011that the first live donor successful kidney transplantation was performed at the GMC. “Well we did about 14 kidney transplants and it was very satisfying. Unfortunately in last one and half year the kidney transplant took a little setback and no transplantations were done here,” the doctor said.
“I am happy that again under the leadership of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane the transplant programme has been started and today we did the first transplant after big gap and tomorrow we are doing yet another transplant,” doctor stated.
The doctors team expressed confidence that more such transplant will be done at the medical centre.
