MARGAO: Konkan Railway Union Employees Association on Wednesday claimed that the central government is planning to privatise Konkan Railway Corporation and strongly objected to the move.

Addressing the media persons at Margao, Subhash Malgi, president of the Association along with other office-bearers said that states like Goa, Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra, including the Konkan Railway employees will be severely affected if Konkan Railways is privatised.
“It has been brought to our notice that the central government is moving towards privatising the Konkan Railways (KR) in the coming days. The government has already initiated the process. However this will badly affect the employees of KR which are nearly 5000 in numbers,” said Malgi.
He further claimed that the ticket fare will be increased if privatization of KR comes to force and will affect the general public travelling by the railways.
The KR Employees Union has also appealed to the state governments of Goa, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Karnataka to support their agitation objecting to the privatisation of Konkan Railway.
