Porvorim: Deputy Speaker and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has demanded that a House committee should be formed to study as to why LED fishing was still being carried out even after the ban.
“LED lights and bull-trawling should be banned. I know that it is banned but it is still being carried out and due to this I demand that a House committee should be formed to study as to why LED fishing is still being carried out even after the ban,” said Lobo
He further said that if LED fishing continues there won’t be any fish left and a report shows that.
“The government should take up the problems of fisherman as there are a lot of demands which are still not resolved and the rights of fisherman should be given and protected,” he said.
Speaking on the official language, Lobo demanded that Romi Konkani should be looked upon and demanded that special interest should be given as to how jobs can be reserved for Goans.
Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha demanded that the LED lights should be resolved and violations should not be allowed, however stating that marine biodiversity should be protected.
Meanwhile, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald also said that LED lights were still being used even after the ban stating that violations should be stopped.
St Andre MLA Francisco Silveira also pitched for house committee be formed to study why LED lights were used even after the ban and demanding that use of LED lights should be banned across the coastline and not only in Goa.
“I demand that a House committee should be formed to study as to why LED fishing is still being carried out even after the ban,” added Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao.

mlas demand subsidised fish, mobile vans for locals
PORVORIM: The members of the Goa Legislative Assembly have unanimously demanded for mobile fish vans across Goa by the Fisheries Department in a bid to provide subsidised fish to locals.
“Today fish is getting very costly and I feel the department should start mobile vans and stalls which will provide fish at subsidised rates,” Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said.
Meanwhile, Marmagao MLA Milind Naik also demanded mobile fish vans in his constituency. Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar and Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginald also pitched for mobile fishing vans.
However, Sanvordem MLA demanded that two mobile fishing vans should be set up as the new fish market would take another two years to complete.
Mandrem MLA demanded that fisherman should get proper facilities and their issues should be looked into.
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo also added that prawns and kingfish should be made available at subsidised rates once in a while.
