PANJIM: BJP’s Calangute MLA Michael Lobo requested the State government to focus attention on the coastal tourist stretch especially by solving various infrastructural problems to avoid hardships to locals as well as several lakh tourists who holiday here.
In his list of requests, he called on the government to tackle the acute water crisis resolved by providing at least three hours of water supply daily along the Candolim-Calangute-Baga stretch. “Locals get water only once in two to three days. The underground water is contaminated…I request that water be made available at least three hours every day.”
He also pointed out that from over two lakh tourists visiting his constituency, more than one lakh stay along the beach stretch. Moreover, the underground water has been contaminated and pipelines are damaged owing to digging work.
In the same breath, Lobo requested the government to resolve the tourist taxi issues, ensure that tourists are not harassed unnecessarily by the RTO officials during the day, and expedite the widening of existing narrow roads by three meters on either side, an infrastructural problem that has been festering the State for long.
