PONDA: The Ponda unit of BJP on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on local MLA Lavoo Mamletdar for allegedly being inactive and has demanded that the Ponda constituency be allotted to the saffron party during the seat sharing. Addressing a press conference at Ponda, municipal councilor Sunil Desai, who had once unsuccessfully contested an assembly election from Ponda constituency on BJP ticket, demanded that the BJP field a candidate from Ponda for the ensuing assembly polls. He insisted that even if his party ties up with the MGP, the BJP should field a candidate from Ponda. When questioned why he was against Mamletdar re-contesting the from Ponda, Desai said that the MGP MLA has been “inactive during his entire tenure as an MLA. And whatever development is done in the constituency, is done at the initiative of the local BJP workers.” “Mamletdar is not cooperating in carrying out development works in Ponda. He never took part in PMC meeting on development issues; he had attended only one meeting during four and half year period. He had never paid attention to the development of Ponda constituency,” Desai alleged.
He said that the BJP activists worked hard get Mamletdar elected at last assembly election, but the MLA failed to fulfill the aspirations of the voters. Responding to the scathing attack of the BJP, Mamletdar said, “The BJP is not only playing dirty politics in Goa and Maharashtra, but also allover India. It’s not the people of Ponda who are opposing me, but some worthless people.”
