Ponda: Two and a half months after a landslide on the Curti hill raised concerns about the fate about buildings on top of it, no major steps have been taken to address the issue till now.
This was raised by locals of Prabunagar Curti who along with panch member Sharmila Sangaonkar gathered at the spot to address the media. Locals have demanded that a retaining wall be built at the side of the building where the landslide had occurred to prevent any further incident.

Sangaonkar pointed out that below the landslide area there is a walking track, a playground and a lot of locals especially women and children move in the area.
“In case the building collapses then it would not only pose a risk to their lives but also the foundation of other houses located nearby the hill, which could weaken and collapse as well.
Salgaonkar added that following an inspection, the work of clearing trees that had collapsed during the landslide had begun but that the government should address the construction of the retaining wall as it would cost a lot of money.
Locals demanded that the wall be constructed at sufficient height and that the authorities should not wait for the next monsoon to commence work.
This work should carry immediately and should not wait for commencement of next monsoon.
Locals, the panch and MGP leader also called on Ponda MLA Ravi Naik to look into the matter given that he too had conducted an inspection and raised it with the government.
