MARGAO: Residents of Madel-Fatorda expressed growing frustration on Tuesday over persistent sewage overflow issues, which they describe as both a nuisance and a serious health hazard. They claim that the problem has been ongoing for several years, with no effective resolution from the authorities.

Despite numerous complaints, the residents feel that their grievances have been consistently ignored.
On Tuesday, residents gathered at the site to voice their anger, calling for immediate action from the officials of the Public Works Department and the Sewerage Network. They demonstrated their dissatisfaction with the constant stream of sewage, highlighting the severe impact on their daily lives and businesses.
Residents have claimed that the stench from the overflowing septic waste is unbearable and poses serious health hazards. In addition, several business owners in the area report suffering financial losses due to the persistent nuisance. The foul odour and unsanitary conditions are driving away customers and impacting their daily operations, they complain.
Speaking to reporters, local councillor Francis Jonas highlighted that the overflowing sewage has become a recurring issue in the area.
“We were assured by the authorities that the problem would be resolved once the North-Main sewage pipeline work was completed,” he stated. “However, despite the completion of the project, the problem persists.” Jonas expressed frustration over the unsanitary surroundings they are forced to endure .
He called for urgent attention to be given to the unresolved issue to alleviate the community’s suffering.
“The authorities are just passing the buck to each other and have failed to resolve the issue,” said Jonas. “The fault needs to be identified and corrected. Residents have been enduring these tough conditions for years, and it’s also negatively impacting the local businesses.”
Expressing anger over the situation, one of the citizens told reporters that they have sent numerous official letters to the concerned authorities, but no solution has been provided to date.
An elderly resident present at the site added that the stench from the overflowing sewage is simply unbearable.
“There are several business establishments here paying huge rents, but due to these deplorable conditions, they are suffering losses,” she claimed.
Shockingly, a team of officials from the Public Works Department present at the site remained silent and offered no immediate response to the pressing issue.
