MARGAO: Even as Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh visited the indoor stadium at Navelim where the stranded or homeless migrants from Margao are lodged and boarded, the residents of nearby areas, especially from the Colmorod Ward, have expressed grave apprehensions over their presence.
On Sunday, the locals caught one migrant staying in the stadium, returning back with a bottle of alcohol, who was also in a inebriated state. Shadow Council for Margao Convener Savio Coutinho had raised this issue and questioned how the migrants could get alcohol when the liquor traders are supposed to be closed due to the lockdown.

“While the government made a big issue about NRI Goans moving about after returning from abroad, it appears to be least bothered about the movement of these migrants,” said Savio while also demanding a change in the security system as it has proven to be ineffective.
In fact on Sunday, the locals video recorded a migrant getting out of the stadium through the rear side using a makeshift ladder. The locals have also complained of migrants entering their compounds and stealing their fruits including raw mangoes and fear thefts and robberies may follow next.
The IGP visited the stadium to see for himself what arrangements are being made. He said that the security personnel will be increased to ensure that those housed do not go out.
