PANJIM: The Government is all geared up for the upcoming Lokotsav festival in Goa to be held at the Kala Academy.
The national level festival will be held on January 8, 2016 and expected to draw persons from all around the world. The festival, known for the display of folk art and handicrafts, has always witnessed a large attendance.
The festival will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and Honorable Minister for Art and Culture, Dayanand Mandrekar at 6:30 pm.
The Police Department is expected to take care of the different factors of the festival that affect the general public. The Police department will be tackling the traffic in and around the city, during the festival as it is likely to cause inconvenience for the citizens in Panjim. During the festival the traffic from the venue till the main Panjim circle is expected to increase and is likely to affect all the people on this route.
The festival is also likely to increase the garbage in the city which has been one of the major issues, currently being tackled. The Government is keen to solve the garbage problem and reduce the accumulation of garbage during the festival. Corporation City of Panjim (CCP) member, Kabir Pinto Makhija has demanded for the venue to be shifted due to these issues which, he said, affect the public.
Also, the hype of terrorism within the country has made it mandatory for the police department to keep a tighter security.
