Loutolim woman dies after being hit by car at Cortalim Junction

MARGAO: Loutolim resident Rosa Maria Fernandes, 57, was killed after a car knocked her down while she was crossing the road at Cortalim.  

According to PSI Sanket Talkar, the Verna police have registered the offence under Sections 279, 304 A of the IPC against the driver of the car Femila Dias, 50, a resident of Bandfoll, Chinchinim, for driving in a rash and negligent manner and causing the death of the pedestrian. The police said that Dias was speeding towards Margao and at Cortalim junction, she hit Fernandes who was crossing the road.

She then went on to crash into another car which was proceeding towards Margao. The police said that a motorcycle parked by the side of the highway at Cortalim junction was also damaged. Fernandes sustained serious injuries and succumbed while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Bambolim.
