BICHOLIM: The farmers who have suffered losses due to a breach in the Tillari canal, have accused the Maharashtra government of low quality work.
The farmers urged Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to question the Maharashtra government over the issue. The farmers have also alleged that the Irrigation Department engineers used low quality material to construct the canal.
“The work of the canal in Goa is far better than in Maharashtra and that is the reason why it breaches every time. This is not the first time that such a thing has happened as earlier such incidents were reported in Tillari and Parme, though this is the major incident,” stated a farmer.
The farmers claimed that the Maharashtra irrigation department is not taking any steps to avoid such incidents. “The canal has developed cracks in several parts of Maharashtra and just some metres from where this breach has taken place there is another incident likely to happen soon,” said the farmer.
Farmers said it is high time that the Goa government and Chief Minister Parrikar question the Maharashtra government for such negligence.
