PANJIM: Goa Mahila Congress Pradesh Committee has sought the intervention of Women and Child Minister Vishwajit Rane to improve the pathetic living conditions in the government-run Provedoria homes (Institute of Public Assistance).
Addressing media persons, Mahila Congress president Pratima Coutinho said that during their visit to the Provedoria homes on Independence Day, they came across the pitiable living conditions of the inmates. The Mahila wing visited homes at Altinho, Goa Velha, St Cruz, Taleigao, Tivim, Margao and Cuncolim.
Coutinho said they observed that the inmates are living in unhygienic conditions and lack basic amenities including proper diet. “We noted that inmates were not given bath for several days and were also not served with proper healthy diet. There were no bed sheets, cleanliness, etc,” she said.
“We urge Minister Vishwajit Rane to immediately intervene in the matter as it is a very sensitive issue and ensure that proper care and attention is given to the inmates,” Coutinho said.
