A major fire broke out in a rented room near St. Anthony Chapel in Bastora, causing extensive damage and destroying cash, jewellery, electronic appliances, and other household belongings. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.
According to available information, the blaze completely gutted the room, reducing most of the family’s possessions to ashes. Among the items lost were jewellery, approximately ₹70,000 in cash, and several household articles. Electronic appliances, including a refrigerator, ceiling fan, and table fan, were also destroyed in the fire.

The occupants—a husband and wife—were at work when the incident occurred, while their children were away at school. The fire was first noticed by the owner of the rented premises, who saw smoke emanating from the room. He immediately switched on a nearby well pump and began trying to extinguish the flames while bystanders alerted the fire services.
Personnel from the Mapusa Fire Brigade rushed to the scene and successfully brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby properties.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and authorities are expected to investigate the incident. Fortunately, no one was injured as the house was unoccupied when the fire broke out.
