CALANGUTE: Calangute police arrested a suspect from UP on charges of possessing fire arms at Umtta Vaddo, Calangute, late Tuesday night.
According to Calangute police, they were alerted of the person moving with fire arms in and around Calangute on a Maharashtra-registered scooter.
Calangute police team comprising four police sub-inspectors Mahesh Gadekar, Nitin Halarnkar, Madhav Naik and Sameer Haldankar apprehended the person, Kuldeep Singh, at Umtta Vaddo, Calangute.
The moment the suspect saw the police, he tried to run away. He was nabbed after a chase.
Police said Kuldeep was found in possession of a katta (country-made fire arm) with live round and an extra round of 8 mm bore. The accused was also involved in activities of touts and guiding in and around Calangute.
Calangute police said Kuldeep was looking for a customer to sell the katta in view of the tension prevailing in Calangute over demolition of dance bars and closure of illegal activities.
Meanwhile, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said the arrested man could be a close accomplice of the person who threatened him.
