MARGAO: In a shocking incident reported at Navelim on Tuesday night, a 49-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 85-year-old mother with a knife.
Margao Police said Rosario D’Costa, who is believed to be ill, stabbed his mother Rosy D’Costa at their residence at Navelim.
Police said they have arrested the accused and have recovered the knife used in the attack.
However, as per orders of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Margao, the accused has been lodged at the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB).
PSI Varshada Naik Dessai registered a case against the accused under Section 326 of the IPC.
Rosy, who sustained hand injuries in the attack, is undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim, police said.
Margao Police said they are yet to record the victim’s statement.
Police said Rosy’s two other children are working abroad.
The police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the attack.
The accused was also taken to Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim for medical examination.
PSI Varshada is investigating the case.
