MARGAO: Raia panchayat members, residents and local leaders from Curtorim and Rachol termed as “baseless and false” the charges of local MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco accusing the village body of doing nothing with regards to the dumping of waste by the roadside near the Sonsoddo dump yard.
The Congressmen from Curtorim accused the MLA of failing to resolve the garbage problem in the constituency.

On Wednesday Minguelina D’Souza, Raia sarpanch including a few panchas, Congressman and former Curtorim zilla panchayat member Moreno Rebello, Simon Barretto, Curtorim deputy sarpanch, besides other residents gathered at the site and refuted the MLA’s charges that the panchayat has done nothing in this regard.
Speaking to media persons Minguelina said that the allegations against the panchayat by the MLA are totally false in nature.
“As a responsible panchayat body we are working hard to resolve the garbage issue and mainly to clear the garbage dumped by the roadside near Sonsoddo yard in the panchayat jurisdiction. Hence, the allegations that the panchayat had failed in handling the issue are totally false”, she said.
The sarpanch said the panchayat has already resolved to install CCTV cameras to catch the culprits.
“The panchayat has already issued a work order to a private agency and CCTV cameras will be installed in the next few days”, panch Mario D’Souza said.
