MAPUSA: The officials from Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL), Transport Department and volunteers of GOACAN conducted a joint inspection of Mapusa Bus Stand following complaints of encroachment at the site.
The inspection of the bus stand comes after GOACAN had complained of encroachment with new stalls coming up on the passenger platform by removing the resting chairs kept for the passengers.

Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited Deputy Manager N S Naik, Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector Pravin Wadkar and GOACAN volunteers Julia D’souza, Owen Braganza and Nancy Fernandes were present for the inspection.
GOACAN volunteers questioned the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited officials as to how they compromised the safety and comfort of the passengers by allowing stalls at the passenger platform.
Naik said, “We had invited expressions of interest and it was tendered and the party which quoted the highest was given this space for franchise. At present there is financial crunch, we have to look for new sources of revenue and since there is so much space at the bus stand, we converted it for commercial purposes.”
“Benches which have been removed will be relocated immediately and if required additional will be installed. I will submit the report and the board will take necessary action”, Naik added.
GOACAN volunteer Julia D’Souza said, “Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited officials have told us that they want revenue but it should not be done at the cost of senior citizens. Benches are removed and stalls have been erected. Senior citizens need a place to sit but in absence of benches it becomes difficult”.
