The Mapusa fish market may soon face disconnection of water and electricity supply after the Urban Health Centre (UHC) pulled up the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) for failing to comply with health and sanitation norms, despite repeated notices.
According to sources, the Urban Health Centre has expressed serious concern over continued non-compliance at the fish market and has warned of strict action if immediate corrective measures are not taken. Notices were earlier issued to the MMC, directing it to address deficiencies related to hygiene, sanitation and public health standards, but the required improvements were reportedly not carried out.

With no satisfactory response from the civic body, the UHC has now indicated that essential services such as water and electricity could be disconnected as an enforcement measure.
