Mapusa municipality to hike security deposit for new shops

PORVORIM: The Mapusa Municipal council in a bid to increase its revenue has decided to increase the security deposit substantially of their new shops that will be auctioned shortly.
In the meeting held recently under the chairmanship of Sandeep Falari, the MMC has decided to increase the security deposit of shop of 6 to 10 sq metres area to Rs 1,25,000 from the existing deposit of Rs 80,000. Similarly, the security deposit for the shops of 14 to 16 sq metres will be  hiked to Rs 2,50,000 from the existing Rs 1,60,000 and for the shops of 21 to 24 sq metres to Rs 3,75,000 to from Rs 2,40,000. These revised rates will not be applicable for shops under reserved category.
In the meeting it was also resolved to implement the ‘Goa Right of Citizen for Time bound Service Act’ so as to provide better service to the people. It was also decided to make the administration paperless by undertaking the digitization of all documents.
The chairperson Falari mentioned that MMC will invite the proposals from the companies for the digitisation of documents of MMC. MMC has already received a proposal from Ved System Infocom Pvt Ltd in this regard, said Falari.
The issue of maintenance of public toilets also came up for discussion in the meeting. After discussion it was decided to permit New Vision Media to take up few public toilets in municipal market on trial basis for renovation and maintenance on its own and charge a nominal fee of Rs 2 per person for use of toilets. They will also be allowed advertise on the walls of the toilets.
The chairperson Sandeep Falari mentioned that MMC has received request from Inspector of General Prisons for the collection and disposal of garbage from Covale Jail for which necessary payment will be made by jail authorities. MMC resolved to accept this proposal and approach the DMA for purchase of new vehicle for the said purpose.
