Mapusa shop owners plant sapling in pothole

MAPUSA: To highlight the pathetic condition of roads in Mapusa, shop owners located in Pirankar lane opposite to Mapusa Municipal Market on Friday planted a sapling in a pothole and slammed the Mapusa MLA for his failure to repair roads.

“Chief minister is on record that no potholes will be seen on the road after November 1 however he failed to do so. This particular lane opposite to Mapusa market is one of the most used and remains congested and this particular pothole has been lying for the past several months but the local MLA has failed to repair it. If he cannot do such small work then what is the point of him being the MLA”, a local shop owner said.

“For the last one and half year, I have made several visits to the municipality asking to repair the potholes. First they said they will put pavers but it was not done. Now they said they will hot mix the road but till today it has not been done. Today we planted a sapling to highlight that there is a pothole and dragged the attention of the MLA to repair the pothole”, another shopkeeper said.

Sudhir Kandolkar Congress leader said, “Mapusa locals have suffered due to the pathetic condition of roads. MLA is on record that the department of roads will be taking work of hotmix of road as well as underground cabling. If the roads are dug for underground cabling after the hotmix then it will be a total waste of public funds”.
