Margao blast accused plea for day-to-day trial rejected

The South Goa Sessions court on Wednesday rejected the application moved by the Margao bomb blast accused seeking day-to-day hearing of the trial.
Sessions Judge U V Bakre also rejected the application filed by the accused persons for lodging them in a single cell on security grounds.
The Court, however, party allowed the application filed by accused Dilip Mangaonkar to speak to his wife from the land line. While partly granting the application, the court has said that the date and time when the accused would speak to his wife should be decided first and that the conversation should take place infront of the jail guard.
Special Public Prosecutor, S B Faria, representing the National Investigating Agency, told Herald that the court today examined two prosecution witnesses, Syed Hussain and Ramakant Velip in support of its case.
Two more witnesses will be examined by the court when the case comes up for hearing on Thursday, he added.
The accused arrested in the bomb blast case had asked the court to lodge them in a single cell on grounds that they apprehended threats to their lives due to adverse media publicity. The application to lodge them in one cell, however, did not find favour with the court on security considerations.
Replying to a question, Faria said the chargesheet against accused Prashant Juvekar and Prashant Asthekar will be filed by the NIA after completion of investigations. “Investigations into the case are still continuing and the chargesheet will be filed after the investigations are over”, he added.
