Ayodhya verdict: people urged to maintain peace

In view of the Ayodhya verdict on Thursday, Bicholim Police convened a special meeting urging the people to maintain peace in the taluka.
The meeting was convened in the DySP’s office on Wednesday and Bicholim PI Harish Madkaikar was present for the meeting. The meeting was called asking all the communities to maintain peace in the taluka after the sensitive verdict on Ayodhya issue is pronounced on Thursday.
The police had called some prominent persons from Bicholim and Valpoi from all the three communities including Hindu, Muslim and Christians. The meeting was also attended by some religious groups from both the talukas.
“The basic purpose of the meeting was to maintain peace and also to avoid any untoward incident in the area,” PI Harish Madkaikar told Herald.
“People from Bicholim and for that matter the entire State are very peaceful and the meeting was just to appeal the people not to get instigated and keep the communal harmony,” said PI Madkaikar.
Bicholim DySP Bossuet D’Silva also urged the people to be alert and contact the police in case if they feel that any group is trying to disrupt peace in the taluka.
The people accepted the suggestions of the police and extended their support in the endeavour. They also appreciated the efforts of the police.
Meanwhile, in view of the verdict, police would be deployed in some of the religious areas, including Bicholim Mosque.
