MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) will launch a massive tax recovery drive beginning January 1.
“We have appointed two Market Inspectors in Margao and Fatorda for a comprehensive survey. Action will be taken against establishments operating without valid documents and licences. I urge citizens to obtain proper trade licences,” said MMC Chairperson Damodkar Shirodkar.
He said that each Market Inspector has been tasked with identifying 10 premises daily and submitting weekly reports to the CO every Friday.
This initiative comes in response to complaints from traders in the New Market regarding unauthorised vendors. It also builds upon earlier tax recovery efforts of the council.
The motive is to ensure that the council is not deprived of its revenue sources and also to crack down on establishments that are operating illegally. These issues have been raised at past council meetings and by councillors.
Shirodkar vowed to ensure that this matter is taken to its logical end.
