Massive Fire at East Delhi Children’s Hospital Claims Lives of Six Newborns

In a tragic incident, a massive fire broke out at the ‘Baby Care New Born Hospital’ in the Vivek Vihar area of East Delhi late Saturday night, resulting in the death of six newborns. The fire, which started around 11:30 pm, quickly spread to the adjacent building, causing significant damage and panic.

Senior police officials reported that a total of 12 infants were rescued from the inferno with the assistance of local residents. Unfortunately, six of the rescued infants succumbed to their injuries, while five others are currently receiving treatment at the East Delhi Advance NICU hospital. Notably, one of the infants had passed away prior to the fire incident. The bodies, including the one infant who had died before the fire, were transferred to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for postmortem examinations.

Delhi Fire Services Director stated that the fire department received the emergency call at 11:32 pm and promptly dispatched nine fire tenders to the scene. Despite the swift response, the building was already engulfed in flames by the time the firemen arrived. It took approximately 70 minutes for the fire to be brought under control.

The owner of the ‘Baby Care New Born Hospital,’ Naveen Kichi, is currently absconding. The Delhi police have registered an FIR against him under sections 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. The authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire and ensure accountability.
