Cortalim legislator Mauvin Godinho “will not accept the bait” offered by the Congress by appointing him the election campaign manager for the next assembly polls, to be held early next year, sources close to the deputy speaker said.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Subash Shirodkar had told Herald on Monday that the Congress high command had already appointed Mauvin as election campaign manager to lead the party into elections.
However, when contacted Mauvin told this paper he has not thought over the issue yet.
“Yes I have been offered the job, but I have not made up my mind,” was how Mauvin replied.
While Mauvin gave a vague reply sources close to the legislator confirmed that he has turned down the offer from Congress.
“Mauvin is not very happy with GPCC President Shirodkar, who he feels has not been vociferous against the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party,” sources informed.
“He will not accept the bait offered by Congress,” they stated.
Sources also questioned Shirodkar’s offer to Mauvin as the former’s future itself is unsure of continuing as the GPCC president.
Congress sources, however, said that Mauvin’s aggressive posturing in the recently concluded winter session of the Goa legislative assembly, in which he took several ministers to task on issues relating to corruption, had forced the Congress high command to dangle the ‘campaign manager’ carrot before him.
