At an earlier gram sabha, it was resolved that a police complaint be registered against the ex-sarpanch Veena Chodankar and the ex-secretary for corruption and misappropriation of funds. The then secretary Tirodkar was present for the meeting.
At a meeting on May 26, when the new secretary Mahadev Naik read the minutes, it was found that Tirodkar had not mentioned the ex-sarpanch’s name in the resolution to file an FIR. The furious villagers demanded that Tirodkar be called for the next gram sabha to clear the discrepancies. Thus the gram sabha was adjourned for the first time.
On June 7, the gram sabha was again adjourned after villager’s learned of Tirodkar’s absence. They urged the panchayat to inform the Block Development Officer and bring Tirodkar to the next meeting.
On Sunday, when questioned about Tirodkar’s absence, Secretary Mahadev Naik read out a letter informing that Tirodkar could not come as he had been appointed as an observer for the Sal gram sabha. The meeting, which was attended by all eleven panch members, was adjourned for the third time, and the villagers demanded that no further gram sabha be called until Tirodkar agreed to be present.
